CASEA/ACEAS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARDS
These awards are intended to recognize those who have had a
career of distinguished service in the study of educational administration
in Canada. Distinguished Service Awards are presented at the
CASEA/ACEAS annual meeting or at the annual banquet. No more
than two individuals may receive an award in any given year.
Nominations: Candidates for the award must be nominated by a
department of educational administration (or other appropriate
department if the nominating university has no educational administration
unit). Candidates need not be nominated by their own institutions;
any institution can file a nomination for any person thought
to be meritorious. The nomination, signed by the administrative
head of the nominating unit, must include:
1.A complete CV for the candidate,
2.A written statement outlining the ways in which the candidate meets the
criteria for the award, and
3.Letters of support for the nomination from CASEA/ACEAS members from at
least three other universities or educational agencies.
Criteria: Nominees must meet criterion 1 and at least
two of the other five criteria listed below to be eligible for
the Award. Nominations must include evidence that these criteria
have been met consistently over a substantial period of time
-- normally 15 or more years.
1.Active involvement in CASEA/ACEAS through: long term membership,
presentation of papers, chairing of sessions, involvement on
the Executive or other committees, contribution to the Newsletter,
or other activities.
2.A distinguished record of research and publication as evidenced
by publications in a variety of journals with national and international
status, or by the receipt of research grants or equivalent measures.
3.A distinguished record of teaching and preparation of graduate
students, as evidenced by the receipt of teaching awards, commendations
from students, former students occupying leadership positions
in education, or the equivalent.
4.An active role in the preparation of teaching materials, as
evidenced by authorship of textbooks, case studies, audio visual
materials, presentation of clinics or workshops, or equivalent.
5.Active involvement in other educational administration organizations
such as UCEA, CCEA, AERA, or equivalent.
6.Active service related to educational administration through
membership on various commissions of inquiry, preparation of
public reports or documents, contributions to public debate about
education issues, or equivalent.

THOMAS B. GREENFIELD DISSERTATION AWARD
Submissions of Doctoral Dissertations in Educational Administration
are invited for the award competition. The CASEA/ACAES Thomas
B. Greenfield Award will be presented at the annual conference
of the Canadian Society for the Study of Education.
The recipient will be invited to present a paper based on his
or her research at the CASEA conference. Travel expenses will
be covered, in part, by the association.
Selection Criteria:
1.Significance of the research problem,
2.Conceptualization, design, and execution of the study,
3.Potential for theory development, further research, and improved
practice, and
4.Relevance to the field of educational administration in Canada.
Eligibility requirements for the EdD or PhD degree in educational
administration must have been completed during the calendar year
prior to the conference or the degree must have been awarded
during that period by a Canadian university.
Normally the dissertation is submitted by the supervisor; however,
there is nothing to prevent an individual submitting his/her
own work. A departmental screening, if there is one, is simply
to ensure that the department is willing to submit the dissertation
under its name. PhD submissions are not limited to one per department;
this is the case only with the Master’s award but not the Greenfield.
Submission of the entries: Applicants should submit one unbound
copy of the dissertation together with a 2,500 to 3,000 word
article (less references), giving an overview of the study to
the chair of the dissertation award committee. Send documents
to
Dr. Dawn Wallin
Faculty of Education
University of Manitoba
Winnipeg, Manitoba

Telephone: 204-474-9004 ext. 6069
E-mail: wallind@ms.umanitoba.ca
Submissions must be received no later than February 1, 2010.
