President’s Report
Rosemary Foster
The executive has followed up on the following ACEAS priorités/CASEA Priorities as outlined, defined, and directed by the 2008 ACEAS AGA/CASEA AGM:
- piloted a “distributed leadership” model where more members are involved in the work of preparing for the 2009 ACEAS/CASEA event. The president and 2 vice-presidents delegated responsibilities to the sub-committees.
- established un comité des Francophones. Claire Lapointe l’organise. The purpose of the committee is to encourage more Francophone colleagues to join and participate in ACEAS/CASEA. The 2009 conference, and the next two conferences, will be held in bilingual cities (Carleton, Concordia, UNB/St Thomas). C’est le bon moment!
- established and extended under the graduate student representative, Brenton Faubert, active involvement in scheduling the Graduate Student Seminar, as well as ACEAS/CASEA program. Graduate student presenters are paired with more experienced scholars who provide mentorship. Chapeaux!/Hats off to Bonnie Stelmach (U of Saskatchewan)/Brenton Faubert (OISE/UT) for this initiative.
- continued for a second year the pilot “conversation/discussion” sessions. Program co-chairs, Matthew Meyer and Bonnie Stelmach have sharpened criteria for the review process. There are 7 conversation sessions at ACEAS/CASEA this year.
- Coral Mitchell (Brock U) has done a fabulous job of managing the ACEAS/CASEA WEBPAGE.
- There have been 5 newsletters distributed to ACEAS/CASEA members and posted on the WEBPAGE this past academic year. Thanks to Lisa Wright, CASEA member and graduate student U of Alberta, for her help with this (see: www.casea.org for more info).
- disbanded discussants at ACEAS/CASEA sessions and provided more specific duties for the Chairs/présidents/es.
Sincerely,
Rosemary Foster, CASEA/ACEAS president 2008-09 |
